Chief Medical Officer
Dr. John Murphy assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer in November 2023. Dr. Murphy has been with the organization for 15 years and has served in several leadership roles. Most recently, Dr. Murphy served as La Clinica’s Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and Medical Director of Quality Improvement. In his role as CMIO, Dr. Murphy led two Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementations for La Clinica, the second shortly following the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. In collaboration with a Quality Improvement and Analytics team, he provided the clinical specifications for analytics platform buildouts.
Dr. Murphy has also been the Associate Medical Director of Clinica Alta Vista and the School-Based Health centers, and Regional Medical Director for La Clinica’s Solano County sites. In addition, he has had patent panels in the three counties that La Clinica serves and continues to provide patient care, including newborn care in the inpatient setting.
Dr. Murphy received his bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College and medical degree from the University of Kansas. He completed Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency training at the University of Minnesota and was a chief resident at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Murphy holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine (Clinical Informatics).
Besides his responsibilities at La Clinica, Dr. Murphy has participated in advisory committees related to informatics and quality improvement for a health plan, the National Association of Community Health Centers, and Epic.
